American Academy of Dermatology Shade Structure Program

American Academy of Dermatology

• Description: The American Academy of Dermatology's (AAD) Shade Structure Program awards funds for installing permanent shade structures. In addition to the grant, the AAD also provides a permanent sign to be placed near the shade structure featuring sun-safety tips.

• Eligibility: Public schools for students 18 and younger

• Award amount: Up to $8,000. For reference, $8,000 will cover most shade sails of 10’ X10’, however many shade projects require additional resources.

Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program in FY 2025

United States Department of Agriculture

The Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program is designed to increase the availability of local foods in schools and connect students to the sources of their food through education, taste tests, school gardens, field trips, and local food sourcing for school meals. Grants can launch new farm to school programs or expand existing efforts. There are two funding opportunities offered under the Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program in FY 2025 for which independent school districts are eligible:

Farm to School Implementation Grant

• Description: The objective of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Farm to School Implementation Grant is to improve access to local foods in eligible CNP sites through comprehensive farm to school programming that includes both local sourcing and agricultural education efforts. Project proposals should incorporate both elements of the required objective.

• Project length: 24 months

• Award amount: $50,000–$500,000. Applicants are required to provide matching support of at least 25 percent of the total project budget in the form of cash or in-kind contributions.

• Deadline: Jan 10, 2025

FY2025 Farm to School Grant-Turnkey

• Description: The objective of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Farm to School Turnkey grants is to simplify the proposal-writing process by providing pre-designed activities to simplify applications for frequently proposed farm to school projects. There are three Turnkey Grant project tracks available in FY 2025: Action Planning, Agricultural Education, and Edible Gardens. Applicants may only apply to one project track. All applicants must demonstrate a commitment to one or more federal Child Nutrition Program(s).

• Project length: 24 months

• Award amount: $5,000–$50,000. Applicants are required to provide matching support of at least 25 percent of the total project budget in the form of cash or in-kind contributions.

Snapdragon Book Foundation Grant

Snapdragon Book Foundation

• Description: The Snapdragon Book Foundation provides funds to improve school libraries for disadvantaged children. In a time when many schools are reallocating their funds to technology and audiovisual equipment, they hope to make sure that school libraries are still offering children good books to read.

• Eligibility: PreK–12 public, private, and experimental schools

• Award amount: Grants typically range from $2,500 to $10,000. When you apply for a grant, you should ask for the amount that the project requires. At times, Snapdragon is not able to fulfill the complete request and instead offers a partial grant.

• Deadline: February 2, 2025

The Mockingbird Foundation Grants

The Mockingbird Foundation

Description: The Mockingbird Foundation offers competitive grants to schools and nonprofit organizations that effect improvements in music education for children.
Eligibility: Grants are made only to nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code, or which have a sponsoring agency with this status, or which are government entities, e.g. public schools. Full proposals are by invitation only. Those interested in funding should complete the Initial Inquiry Form.
Award amount: Grants range in size from $100 to $10,000.
Deadline: Inquiries are due January 15, 2025.

Instrument Matching Grant

Classics for Kids Foundation

Description: Aims to support music education programs by providing funding for the purchase of musical instruments for school children. This matching grant program encourages nonprofit schools and organizations to raise funds, with CFKF matching contributions up to 50% of the total instrument cost.
Eligibility: Nonprofits and public schools serving children in kindergarten through grade 12.

NY School Bus Incentive Program

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

Description: In the April 2022 budget passed by the New York State Legislature and signed by Governor Hochul, the State established a deadline for the transition to zero-emission buses. NYSBIP is a voucher incentive program which will accelerate the deployment of zero-emission school buses and charging infrastructures throughout New York State. Electric School Bus (ESB) Dealers work with the Purchasers to complete the School Bus Voucher Application. Purchasers may apply for Charging Vouchers after they initiate an ESB purchase either through NYSBIP or with other funding.
Eligibility: Purchasers can be New York State public school districts or other public entities that provide pupil transportation services
Award amount: Varies
Deadline: Rolling. Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

2024 Clean School Bus Rebate Program

United States Environmental Protection Agency

Description: The EPA is offering rebates to replace existing school buses with clean and zero-emission models.
Eligibility: Public school districts providing school bus service to one or more public school systems; or the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service of school buses.
Available funding: School districts applying directly for funds may only submit one application to replace up to 50 buses. The maximum rebate amount per bus is dependent on (1) the replacement bus fuel type, (2) the replacement bus size, and (3) whether the school district served by the buses is prioritized. For the 2024 CSB Rebates, the EPA anticipates offering up to $965 million in total funding.
Deadline: January 9, 2025, 4:00 PM ET

Get Schools Cooking Grant

Whole Kids and Chef Ann Foundation

Description: The goal of this program is to to help districts transition from highly processed meals to scratch cooking. Get Schools Cooking will guide selected districts through this multi-year transformative journey that includes in-person workshops for food service directors, on-site assessment, recommendations, and strategic planning, along with peer-to-peer collaboration and access to a Technical/Equipment Assistance Grant.
Eligibility: School districts that 1) Participate in the National School Lunch Program and 2) Run a self-operated food service program
Award amount: The program has a value of nearly $250,000 per participating district (depending on district size).

Youth Sports Grants

All Kids Play

Description: All Kids Play provides funding to families and communities who lack the resources to pay for youth sports.
Eligibility: School sports programs in low income communities that provide community-based recreational level or school sports for kids in grades K-12. Applicants must operate in an area in which the local school district has a higher percentage of low income students than the state average or the average household income in the community is lower than 60% of the estimated state median income by household size based on the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

2024-2025 Energy CLASS

Description: The Energy Champions Leading the Advancement of Sustainable Schools program (Energy CLASS) is a strategic initiative from the DOE Renew America’s Schools Program promoting building and energy management in school districts across America. This opportunity will allow up to 50 school districts to receive coaching and 1:1 expert advice on strategic energy management, project development, funding pathways, and related topics to advance their district’s sustainability goals.

2024-25 Title I School Improvement Grant 1003 (Targeted Support)

Description: For the 2024-25 school year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED or “the Department”) is providing Target Districts with schools under Receivership that participate in Targeted Coaching the opportunity to receive additional support and technical assistance to assist these schools in meeting their annual identified targets.

Description: The purpose of this grant is to develop, implement, and share innovative programs that utilize learning technologies to personalize learning and/or increase access to high-quality, rigorous learning experiences (such as through online, distance, or blended learning), as well as professional development programs to assist teachers and educational leaders in effectively utilizing learning technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Eligibility: Public school districts and consortia of districts or district(s) and BOCES
Project Period: 2.5 years from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027
Funding Amount: $3,285,000 is expected to be allocated annually. Funds will be divided into three categories: New York City; the Big Four (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Yonkers) public school districts; and those from all other public school districts and BOCES in the Rest of State (ROS).

Kids Run the Nation Grant

Description: The goal of the RRCA’s Kids Run the Nation Grant Fund is to provide financial assistance to running clubs, schools, and community-based nonprofits interested in implementing or currently hosting gender and ability inclusive youth running programs.
Eligibility: Running clubs, events, or other organizations with the IRS 501(c)(3) designation; Elementary and middle schools that provide an organized after-school running program. The program should have kids running more than once each week for multiple weeks, should be a structured running program, must be gender-inclusive, and must meet SafeSport Act requirements.
Grant Amount: Small grants ranging from $500 to $1,000

School Emergency Response to Violence (Project SERV)

Project Lead the Way STEM Grants

Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

Description: Project Lead The Way is making grants available to schools across the US that are interested in implementing PLTW programs for the first time for the 2024-2025 school year. PLTW is a non-profit organization that provides STEM curriculum programs for schools from kindergarten through high school. PLTW offers several programs aimed at students of different ages: Launch, PreK through 5; Gateway, 6 through 8; Algebra 1 Advantage, 6 through 12; Computer Science, 9 through 12; Engineering, 9 through 12; and Biomedical Science, 9 through 12.
Eligibility: Public, Private, Charter Schools

Description: For the 2024-25 school year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED or “the Department”) is providing Target Districts with schools identified for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI), and Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) model at the beginning stages of implementing instructional coaching the opportunity to receive funding to support the employment of an instructional coach to allow the school to participate in the NYSED Coaching for Excellence program.
Eligibility: Target Districts with at least one non-Receivership school in the Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) or Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) support model are eligible. Additional criteria must be met (see announcement for more details).
Award amount: $125,000 in funding to support the salary and benefits for the employment of up to 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) instructional coach that participates in the Coaching for Excellence (CFE): Foundational Path or $50,000 in funding to support the salary and benefits for the employment of the 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) instructional coach or, in secondary schools only, two 0.5 FTE instructional coaches in conjunction with participation in the CFE: Elevate path.

Connect Kids to Parks Field Trip Grant Program

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Grant amount: Up to $80 per student and $160 for Special Education students. This is a reimbursement grant program, meaning that each grant recipient must cover all initial field trip costs.

Description: The Connect-Kids-to-Parks Field Trip Grant Program (Connect Kids) is designed to connect students in New York State with nature and history. Each grant provides reimbursement of up to $80 per student (and $160 for Special Education students) for field trips to state and federal parks, forests, historic sites, fish hatcheries and outdoor recreation areas. Reimbursable field trip expenses include transportation costs, as well as program, entry, pavilion fees, on-site equipment rentals (boat rentals, snowshoes, etc.), and camping at state-owned facilities.

COVID-19 Student Support Recovery Grant

School Based Healthcare Solutions Network

Anticipated grant amount: Up to $250,000

Description: The purpose of this program is to promote a collaborative and integrated approach amongst the education and healthcare community to ensure students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. The funding will support the placement of licensed mental health professionals on school campuses. These health professionals will provide mental health services and coordinate academic-support activities in collaboration with school district designated program personnel.
